Notes
The Assaad Najjar Building is a typical corner building representing both the late-1940s/early-1950s trend in Beirut and the recognizable work of Ferneiny and Lymberis. It is located at an intersection and is accessed from the corner. Notwithstanding the importance the curved corner has in the general composition, the engineers/architects managed to ensure continuity between the two symmetrical street elevations. The unity of the building is ensured by the concordance of horizontal lines: the sills and lintels of the curved opening on the corner lend their heights to the parapets and concrete louvered balcony screens of the loggias on the sides. Largely widespread in the late 1940s, these hollowed-out elements have the benefit of removing hot air from the loggias. The building is next to the Arida Building by George Rais and Theo Canaan. Facing it to the west is another Najjar Building, also designed by Ferneiny and Lymberis, that recently underwent a renovation that modified it significantly.
