Notes
Jorn Utzon won the project in an international competition that was held in 1972. This modern monumental building had to deal with a unique and complex governmental system that combines regal, tribal, oligarchic and bureaucratic elements, and uses local references such as the tent and the dhow (a boat that is a national symbol of Kuwait). The building was damaged in 1991 when it was set on fire by Iraqi troops but was restored afterwards.
