Founding Members


George Arbid, Architect
George Arbid has conducted research on modern architecture in Lebanon and has lectured widely. He graduated in architecture in 1988 from the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, and in 2002 with a Doctor of Design degree from Harvard University. He is an Associate Professor at the American University of Beirut, currently teaching design studios, regional architecture and history of modern architecture.
Nada Habis, Architect
Nada Habis graduated in architecture in 1994 from the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), with a Masters in "Architecture Urbaine" from the Ecole d'Architecture de Paris-Belleville (1996). Formerly head of ALBA's Library and Documentation Center, she is involved in architectural documentation networking projects, and in built environment awareness-raising activities, with the same objective of diffusing architectural culture.
Bernard Khoury, Architect
Bernard Khoury is a practicing architect in Beirut. He graduated in architecture from the Rhode Island school of Design (B.F.A 1990 / B. Arch 1991) and received a Masters in Architectural studies from Harvard University (M. Arch 1993). His work has been extensively published by the professional press. His office has developed an international reputation and a significant diverse portfolio of projects both in Lebanon and abroad.
Fouad El Khoury, Photographer
Fouad El Khoury is a renowned photographer. He graduated in architecture in 1979 from the Architectural Association in London before turning to photography. He published several books in architecture and photography covering Amman, Beirut, Sanaa and Cairo among other cities. He is a founding member of the Arab Image Foundation based in Beirut.
Hashim Sarkis, Architect
Hashim Sarkis was appointed Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning in January of 2015. Prior to that he was Aga Khan Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism at Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD). He is author of several books and articles on modern and contemporary architecture and urbanism. His architectural practice Hashim Sarkis Studios, based in Beirut and Boston, has received several international awards and his work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and at the Biennales of Venice, Rotterdam, and Shenzhen/Hong Kong.
Amira el Solh, Urban Planner
Amira Al-Solh is the Urban Planning Department Manager at Solidere, The Lebanese Company for the Development and Reconstruction of Beirut Central District. She received her BA in Sociology at the American University of Beirut in 1998 and Masters in Regional Planning from Cornell University in 2000. She has worked on poverty alleviation and economic policy reform in Lebanon, Syria and Egypt with UNDP and ICARDA. She currently focuses and lectures on strategic planning of the Beirut city center.
Jad Tabet, Architect
Jad Tabet is an Expert Member of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee and Vice-President of Patrimoine Sans Frontières, an NGO based in Paris. He graduated in architecture from the American University of Beirut in 1969. He is a practicing architect & urban planner between Beirut and Paris and won several awards. He is a known critic of architecture, lecturing regularly, and teaches at Sciences Po-Paris School of International Affairs.
