Born in 1932 in Nantes, France, José Oubrerie studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts , Paris, graduating with a degree in Architecture (1955-1958/ 1966-68).  He also graduated with a degree in Painting from the Ecole des Beaux- Arts, Nantes (1946-51).
Oubrerie was the assistant of Le Corbusier between 1957 and 1965. In 1970, he started his own office in Paris. He worked on the realization of the French Cultural Center in Damascus, Syria. 
He taught in Lexington, Kentucky, where he founded Atelier Wylde-Oubrerie in 1989 with his wife. He also taught in the Architecture School of Beaux-arts in Paris, The Cooper Union, Columbia GSAPP, CCNY School of Architecture, Cornell University and Knowlton School of Architecture at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Oubrerie released the book Architecture With and Without Le Corbusier.
