Notes
The building is a successful representation of the technological advancements in architecture at that time. The concept revolved around creating a clear and legible design that honestly expresses its structure and materiality. For instance, no cladding is used, and the structural materials are left apparent.
Displaying elegance and simplicity, the design uses large solid planes with minimal openings and repetitive modules spread across the facade. The module includes a protruding sand brick volume sitting within the apparent concrete structure. Between each module, a slim opening is set allowing minimal light to enter the building. A perforated concrete parapet delineates continuously the building’s upper extremity. Above, a structural concrete ribbon floats over and wraps around the building. The façade housing the entrance is distinguished with symmetry and, thus, accentuated monumentality. The entrance consists of a grandiose opening preceded and sheltered by a portico featuring three columns.
