Notes
This project was Chadirji's first private commission. He had in mind a Miesian type of plan which showed the easy flow of lines. The house was initially divided into three equal spaces by clear continuous walls broken up with perpendicular lines in order to create other spaces.
However, because of financial reasons, minor changes in the plans were not enough and Chadirji had to redesign the project. The second design was different, although still modernist in approach.
It was important to stress on the unique living conditions in Iraq where, for example, the separation between the outside and the inside was not only done using windows—as in the West— but was gradual since living was done both on the inside and the outside. This separation was achieved through an outdoor roofed hallway that opened up to the courtyard/garden.
