Notes
CCRJ, (Centre Commercial et Residentiel à Jeddah) is situated at the heart of the city. Its vehicle block is submerged in the groundwater table. A multipurpose 2 stories commercial area occupies 4,000 sqm of land and accommodates a bank, a supermarket, travel agencies and many other stores. The center is accessible from 3 different entry points where the commercial space benefits from proper ventilation that is networked with a patio linking both floors. Water jets fill the interior space giving a fresh feel for the visitors which is appreciated in this hot location. Just overhead, a snack bar gives to a suspended garden and is split into two branches. The first, sheltered with double sided curtain panels, overlooks the main Abdel-Aziz Street. The other gives to a children playground integrated in a space with water elements and middle eastern green species. Two arched-extruded blocks sit on the commercial podium and are separated by function. The one giving to the main street is reserved for offices, while the other in the calmer side houses residential units. Both blocks are surmounted by restaurants with panoramic views of the city and sea. The main statement for such a complex built for Queen Effat Al-Faycal of Saudi Arabia, was to promote Jeddah’s strategy of an economic hub and leisure city.
