Notes
The museum’s form was designed in order to fit in with the shapes of the Fountain Plaza and the Mosque. Its façade complements the surrounding buildings through the material and the corresponding textures. Thick rough stone, rough-cut stone, smooth-cut stone and glass were all used as symbols to the eras that have passed in Jordan.
The museum has two exhibition galleries; The Main exhibition gallery covers an area of 2800m² and it accommodates the History, Culture, and Royal Gallery as well as the Orientation Hall displays. It is located on the ground floor of the museum and has mezzanine decks which are directly accessible from the ground floor through a stairway at the center of the gallery. On the first floor, the museum houses research laboratories, a library and a production room. The other gallery is the Temporary Exhibition Gallery which is located on the second floor with direct access to the ground floor via an elevator. The main building of the museum also includes Seminar Rooms. A restaurant and shops are also part of the program and they are located outside the museum and have their own entrance.
A main courtyard allows for open air events and is accessible to both the museum and the restaurant. A circular route guides the pedestrian flow in the museum from the Stone Age to the Islamic Period on the ground floor of the Main Gallery which also has access to the Outdoor Gallery.
