Notes
At the same time the
Hôtel Saint-Georges in Beirut was built, Tabet designed the Hôtel Orient-Palace in Damascus, drawing on the syntax of exposed concrete and apparent structure dear to Auguste Perret whom Tabet considered to be his master. Here, Tabet resolves astutely the challenge to design an ordered building that nevertheless accommodates setbacks with a zigzagging profile.
In 1947, many of the participants in the Third Technical Congress of Arab Engineers, held in Damascus, resided at the Hôtel Orient-Palace.
