Notes
Welton Becket was known for his modern style in architecture. His buildings used façade materials such as ceramic tiles, stainless steel grillwork, natural stone, and repetitive geometric patterns.
After obtaining a bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Washington in 1927, he attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Fontainebleau, France in 1928. From 1929 to 1933, he practiced on his own, mostly in Washington. From 1933 to 1939, he partnered up with Walter Wurdeman and Charles Plummer, founding Becket, Wurdeman and Plummer in Los Angeles. The firm then became Becket and Wurdeman until 1949, following Wuderman's death. Becket then formed Welton and Associates, until 1968. After his death, the office merged with Ellerbe Associates of Minneapolis around 1988, forming Ellerbe Becket. The latter was bought out by AECOM in 2009.
