“The Place That Remains” | Recounting the Un-Built Territories

The goal of this conference is to focus on the Places that Remain in the Lebanese Territory, un-built spaces, their traits, histories, and possibilities, in conjunction with Freespace, the topic of the upcoming 16th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. The focus is also on the value of the Place that Remains as a resource for securing quality living via a more meaningful and poetic use of our territory, and as a place that may host our aspirations and meet our expectations.

The conference is organized by the Lebanese American University's School of Architecture and Design in collaboration with Lebanese University's Department of Urbanism, the Lebanese Landscape Association, and the Arab Center for Architecture.

Points of Contact | Finissage & Party

The exhibition and public program POINTS OF CONTACT brings together multimedia responses and investigations into the architecture of the built environment in Lebanon, and its impact on a human bodily experience. The participating artists, theorists, activists, lawyers and architects will explore an interpenetration of private and public spheres that takes effect through capitalism and conflict.

The exhibition will change and evolve over its duration, being constructed, and reconstructed as each participant presents their work through screenings, conversations, performative lectures, and walking tours, taking place across two experimental roundtable events on January 27 and February 17, 2018.

The project is prepared by the Media Lounge of Goethe-Institut Libanon and curated by Helene Kazan, in collaboration with the Arab Center for Architecture and the British Council Lebanon.
