An Open House event was held on June 9, 2013 at the Arab Center for Architecture to celebrate the International Archives Day. Many visitors enjoyed discovering original drawings and documents, as well as photos, books and magazines through guided tours of the center and the collections while drinking coffee on the terrace which offers a stunning 360 degree view on Beirut.

In its first exhibition, “Modern Design and Architecture in the Arab world: the Beginnings of a Project,” the Arab Center for Architecture (ACA) showcases local modernity and the design work of its pioneering architects. A selection of drawings, documents, photographs and models from ACA’s archives and private collections highlight the work of a generation of architects who lived and practiced in Lebanon and thus shaped the Modern Heritage of the country.

The meeting was the occasion to introduce the recently launched online platform www.modernheritageobservatory.org and to ask for partners' contributions. The upcoming International Archives Day on June 9 was discussed to suggest a collective activity for the MoHO network to mark the day.

Designed as a symposium on modern cultural heritage, the one day-event brought together key actors in the field of cultural heritage preservation from across the Middle East and beyond. The symposium was an opportunity for cultural heritage actors to gather together to share experiences, and reflect on how they can collaborate to expand their activities and develop common goals with a view to lobbying for policy change to better protect Modern Heritage in the region.

The Modern Heritage Observatory reunited at the Arab Image Foundation’s premises for its third networking meeting, which focused on the legal aspects of cultural heritage preservation. Three lawyers were invited as speakers, to shed light on various intersections between the legal sphere and heritage. The meeting closed with a Q&A session followed by a discussion.
